Choosing To See The Signs

Do you believe in signs from the Other Side?

Last night, I got to have dinner with my mom, my dear childhood friend Tracy, and another dear friend, Suzanne. Tracy moved to Seattle more than a decade ago, but we have kept in touch across the years and miles. We not only share a lot of history, but a deep belief that we live here on earth surrounded by the sweet spirits of loved ones who have passed away.

Tracy was just 14 when her mom, Pat, died of cancer. That summer, I spent a few wonderful, carefree days with her family at a cabin in northern Minnesota. Tracy and I were both crazy for hair bands at the time. I was busy planning my future marriage to Jon Bon Jovi and she was obsessed with Sebastian Bach of Skid Row. We must have listened to her Skid Row tape a hundred times that weekend. And we sang the songs in the back seat of the car on the drive home. I remember her mom reaching back from the passenger seat to hold hands with Tracy for a few minutes. Eventually, she squeezed her hand and let go. I remember choking back a lump in my throat. A few weeks later, Pat was gone.

But not completely. Although Tracy would have much preferred to have her mom here to see her graduate, to meet her husband, to hold her baby girl…she has been comforted over the years by a strong sense that her mom is still around her. She’s aware of frequent signs from her mom – things that hold special meaning between the two of them – and I’ve felt honored to have her share them with me along the way.

I think it’s no coincidence that a few years ago, my own mom became close friends with psychic-medium Suzanne Krupp, who is now also friends with Tracy and me. Suzanne is featured in the new New York Times bestselling book Messages: Signs, Visits, and Premonitions from Loved Ones Lost on 9/11, which is about all the miraculous signs and so-called coincidences the widows and children of 9/11 victims have experienced since that tragedy. Many people report that certain repeated sightings or experiences feel like meaningful signs from the Other Side. Sightings like unique butterflies, coins on the ground or flickering lights could be a loved one’s way of waving hello from beyond the veil.

Tracy, Suzanne, my mom and I talked a lot last night about these messages from above. Suzanne kept telling Tracy that her mom was right there, too, laughing along with us and showering her with love. After dinner, we all hugged and drove off in separate cars. But within minutes, my cell phone rang. It was Tracy, simply telling me to turn on my radio to 104.1, which happened to be on in the car she was borrowing while in town. I fumbled with the tuner, found the station and what was playing? “I Remember You” by Skid Row.

You totally rock, Pat. 🙂

Beauty Tip: Life is so magical when we open ourselves up to “see” the invisible. Are you aware of special signs from loved ones who have passed on? I’d love for you to share your experiences here!
