I’m Not Ready To Let Go

I vote to officially extend Christmas – or at least the presence of the Christmas spirit. Is anybody with me?

Every year, I feel such a letdown after Christmas Day. I’m not ready to let go of the cheerful hustle and bustle, the sweet celebrations, the meaningful music, the twinkling lights, the way the world’s been all aglow in love and light. I want all that goodness to linger, to settle in our hearts so there’s enough to last a while. Even if the rest of the world wants to move on {including Target, with their giant Valentine display yesterday}, I’m choosing to stay put for a bit.

This week between Christmas and New Year’s is sacred to me – no work, no school, no deadlines. Plenty of time to just be: be quiet, be reflective, be together, be thankful. So, we’re sleeping in, hanging out in our pjs, playing games, reading and writing, eating leftovers, snuggling by the fire, watching movies, being silly, counting our blessings and not counting calories.

Truth be told, I’ll hang on to the holiday spirit for as long as possible – even past this week. Our tree won’t get kicked to the curb for weeks, the little white lights outside will likely twinkle till March {I promise they’re subtle + sweet}, and I’m willing to bet that a couple months from now, Tru will still be singing “Jingle Bells” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” everywhere he goes. Anything to add light and love to our days in the dark of winter.

Am I alone in this? Are most of you ready to leave Christmas in the dust – or are you finding little ways to hang on to the holidays? Either way, I hope this season leaves you feeling loved and lucky.
